In October/November 2015 I travelled to the US and met Photographers for Hope, a collective I am part of. We had come together to cover the story of Newburgh, NY; 'Murder Capital of the US' and the trial and tribulations of a town that is trying to reinvent itself as once again a great place to live. Today Newburgh attract artists from NYC, young families and new businesses. The town has a positive vibe to it and we all fell in love with Newburgh. However much is still to be done. Mental health is an issue, drugs and gun violence but houses are being restored and jobs created. I decided to cover the streets and the destitute. I wanted to see for myself what poverty can do. At the end of our project we had an exhibition, which has moved into a second location (opening on December 16th in Newburgh) and we have had much publicity in the US press on this.

The reality in your photography is new and beautiful … it’s like taking an actual walk around those places .I feel like some of those characters is going to turn and talk to me.
